(layering) i had to get used to the rig, as all rigs seem to be different. Once you draw it you have already determined 80% of the rest of your walk. Try looking at the rigs that ship with your 3d software. Animating a walk cycle seems to be a pretty important exercise that any good animator should be able to do.
